Has anyone successfully managed to convert a Word .doc file to epub so that it's readable by iBooks? I've tried the Stanza converters, which have consistently crashed the Books app.

I have converted some PDFs to word with Acrobat Pro 8 and emailed them to myself. Mail app and Pages can't open the word .doc at all. Any clues? My next step was to try Stanza but it sounds like you are not having any luck. Calibre could not format my tables correctly when converting from PDF to epub. I'll post if I find any useful info.

Did anyone else have problems or success with converting .doc to .epub that would work with iBooks? My iPad hasn't came in yet and I already used the aforementioned Stanza to convert to .epub and if that doesn't work I need a new way to do it so I have something to do while I wait for the delivery.

I have used Open Office.

1) Load the .DOC file
2) Save as .RTF to perserve most of the formatting.
3) Install Calibre
4) Convert .RTF to .ePub

Works well.
