Converting MKV to MP4 (HD to Apple TV) Help

Your doing something wrong or have a setting on/off you shouldn't, also make sure it is the Snapshot as the Normal one doesn't support these formats yet (To my knowledge).
 
Handbrake still is crashing on me frequently during the conversion process. Unstable software (snap shot)

Well, have you gone to the Handbrake site and offered an activity/crash log so the developers can look into it? It won't get fixed if it is never reported...

As for Handbrake taking more time, yes it can sometimes... but remember Handbrake is also using better/different filters/settings than VisualHub, and will almost always result in a better-quality encode. If you use IDENTICAL settings, I highly doubt there would be much a difference in speed either way.

I just used the handbrake I got on the HandBrake homepage, and it was able to convert to Apple TV.
 
Has anyone found a way to get DTS audio to something that will work in 5.1 on the ATV?
 
i read that handbrake can do 5.1 MP4's so i tried it and it won't accept my MKV files.

says it cannot find source.

is it just not possible to go from MKV to MP4 with 5.1 audio?

No.. I think VisualHub can do it. :D. Nothing is impossible with VisualHub.. Try it.

visualhub's apple tv 5.1 preset converts an MKV to a .MOV.

the standard apple tv preset converts to MP4, but has 2.0 audio.

now, when i try to add artwork to my MOV files in metax nothing happens, even after i edit tags manually ... it's a buggy piece of software and i'm trying to avoid it... but i want those movie posters! lol

Lol yeah. I feel you. I'm totally OCD when it comes to adding the rating, movie poster that iTunes has, and the exact description it has as well :eek: scary, I know.
 
i took the advice of a few here and tried handbrake's snapshot build...

it finally allows me to use MKV as a source! it reads AC3 audio on an MP4! wow. i might have my solution here. will update.

Yes, the snapshot build is supposed to be much better. But I haven't noticed it very much, because I never use HandBrake, as I believe that VisualHub is TONS better. :p

Please try not to make so many statements of fact that are, in fact, not factual. Others who may read what you write may mistake your assertions as fact, and thus lead them to make bad decisions, such as buying a FW drive over an eSATA drive for its speed. OK?
 
I'm so confused... :confused:

You should also know, its illegal to post full seasons of a TV show on your Youtube account. If that's what you need an encoder to do, by all means use VisualHub... :rolleyes:
 
I enjoy this thread and RR and CaveMan, u 2 are both excellent.

it's rare to find this kind of passion. let's not take it for granted guys.

i will update on my HB snapshot progress.

Have you tried the snapshot not the 0.9.2 one like I suggested?
