converting music for CD burning

Using an external drive because internal drive is stuffed - how do I convert MP3 file in itunes to readable file (for burning to CD). Using a G3 imac 600MHZ PowerPC750 and Toast 6 to burn. Alternatively is there a way to get itunes/disc burner to preference an external drive instead of the internal drive? Thanks Jillfy

You can make most external drives compatible with iTunes using Patchburn.

Thanks for response! Stlll a problem. Patchburn said i didn't need it because burner is already compatible. (I bought it as an advertised mac compatible drive). Computer still says burning is "not supported" (apple menu/about this computer) - but reading works and it burns dvds on my sons G3 powerbook. Can't change itunes (6.05) preference. Burner is Prolific PL3507 Combo Device.

I find that slightly odd that iTunes will not let you choose what drive you want to use. I have no real solutions for that problem. But as far as creating MP3's to be made into an audio CD you have to convert the mp3's into WAV or AIFF (same format different names).

Toast 6 doesn't have an Audio CD tab in it? Toast 7 (what I have) has it and I figure it isn't that new of a feature. If it does have that tab then you should be able to drag the files you want into Toast and hit Audio CD, and it will do the conversions for you. If not, then you will need a program to convert the files (which is easy, but takes a while). Try it with toast first, cause I'm pretty sure Toast 6 should take care of it for you. If not, then check out www.versiontracker.com and search for an audio converting program (Audacity is a good one).
