Is there any way to do this? I know that WMP 10 isn't available for Mac, but is there any way to play files encoded with it?

Sorry, I don't think it's possible. Microsoft isn't letting anyone use WMV 10 other than their own apps (on Windows) so AFAIK there are no converters for it, Windows or Mac. It's one of the very few drawbacks of the Mac that it cannot play WMV 10. :(

I could be wrong about this, let's hope so. :p

There should be a way or app to convert. Premier would do it but its too high end and a steep learning cure. Streaming data is out of the question. Ther might be a 3rd party hacked codec, but almost all programmers and hackers reside on PC platforms like Windows....Microsoft should make a WMV player for mac (probably rename it to Microsoft Media Player) since WMV is a widely used format. I develop and I do have OSX86Dev as a second operating system on my PC, and I encode in quicktime because QT is fully compatible between OSes. WMV 10 is tighly guarded and almost impossible do reverse engineer with dotfuscator guarding it.

I really don't understand why Microsoft doesn't release a new version of WMP for Mac. It just doesn't make any sense. Apple released Quicktime 7 for Windows, so Microsoft should get on the ball and release a new version of WMP with WMP 10 support. Does anyone know if they are even working on a new version? I sure hope they are.

I really hope this gets sorted, it's the one thing that really hacks me off about using the mac on the net. Either that or all these tw*ts using it will start posting their movies in quicktime!

Yeah, WMV is crap or at least the hyper-proprietary nature of it makes it totally worthless.

k

yeah i got the same problem really bugs me video plays really jerky using wmv 10 in vlc any suggestions

there are programs on windows to convert wmv files but you have to have a pc then trasfer them to your mac. thats what i plan on doing.

I gave that a try once and it didn't seem to play most of the WMV files I had. Maybe I'll give it another try and see how it works out. Will it play streaming content?

it's hit or miss. So far it's palyed 95% of the WMVs I've come across that aren't DRM encrypted (natually if they are, you're SOL). I'm not sure about web-content.. I don't frequent any sites that use WMP or whatnot for web-content. Their (flip4mac's) site will probably tell..

So there are apps to convert WMV9 files? Like to .mov or .mpg?
Can anyone point me to one? I'd like to put some wmv files on my iPod...
