So my dad isn't listening to me. I keep telling him he needs to pitch our
Dell Dimension 8200 w/256mb of ram. We have mouse, keyboard, monitor, etc. All we need is a decent computer. I already have an iMac. He just doesn't think macs can operate in a PC world.
I have showed him the switch page, showed him my macworld magazines, let him use my mac, and he still has yet to comply! Someone Convince Him!

mac's aren't for everyone. computers are hard enough for some people; he's probably comfortable with windows. leave it at that.

Your best approach here is not to recommend replacement of the P/C
but to add a mini, allowing him to use the the P/C for dedicated Windows only
functions while taking advntage of the mini for everything else.

What I did to prove to my parents that Windows was utter crap was just show them what I had to do EVERY WEEK in order to keep the Windows that they so loved.

Every week, I would do a Virus Scan, Ad-aware SpyWare Scan and then finally Disk Defragment using Diskeeper, all this would take me roughly 2 hours each week. 2 hours a week times by 4 weeks in a Month

8 Hours a month - 8x12 = 96 Hours a Year

And I've been using my same Windows PC for 4 Years

96x4 = 384 Hours, i've given up of my time to keep my parents beloved Windows PC running smoothly.

I explained this, the next day, They made the switch to Mac :D

And now I only use Windows PC because im a Professional Gamer and when im not playing my games, Im on my Mac

If you already have an iMac, and he doesn't want to change, I wouldn't force him. The best thinig you can do is let him try your computer. If he likes it, well good for him. If not, it really doesn't harm you, does it?

Buy a stick of ram for the Dell and it'll be fine :D

I have to agree... I have an 8200 (albeit as my secondary & old computer) and it's still a fantastic piece of kit. I did spec it very well when I bought it, but yours surely must have some life in it yet.

It's also a lot harder for some/most parents to pick up on computer related stuff... it'd probably be far easier for your dad to stick with what he knows. Pop some parental control software on there to stop him collecting all the spyware/viruses ;)

I think the issue is that parents have been using windows forever and are less accepting of change. Even though I'm getting a mac laptop in a few months, I don't think my parents would ever switch. Not ever. If he doesn't want to be an apple lover, then you shouldn't force him.
