My computer was running hot and the fans were going full speed, and I accidentally activated Siri. While it was listening, it turned the fans down momentarily. Presumably, the internal mic has a hard time hearing when the fans are in jet-engine mode, so they programmed in this nifty little feature. Cool.

Happens in my car too. I have the air set to auto, when I speak on bluetooth, it lowers the air speed.

Any particular reason to be snarky about it?

Good find, chaos86. I didn’t know that!
There was only snark in that comment if you read it looking for it. One thing is for sure in text-based communication, it SUCKS for conveying tone often leading to these exact types of misunderstandings.

As for the Siri/dictation fans, this is always interesting engineering. To humans it’s imperceptible, but given that the mics are right up in the chassis the sound must be enormous. I’d be genuinely interested in hearing a comparison in background noise levels if it were possible to disable this feature. I bet it would be far more than people would assume.
