So, a freind of mine at work gave me her old ipod mini that she said didn't work. I took it apart and I realized the hard drive was just a microdrive, so I plugged it into my card reader, formatted it, and now I have a 4 gb microdrive I can use.

Thought that is pretty cool :)

ok. i am not the most knowledgeable technology user. what can you use microdrives for?? and my ipod mini is broken too, will the microdrive in mine still work too?

A Microdrive is basically like a CompactFlash card (like what's used in some cameras), except it has a hard drive with moving parts in the same space. As for if yours will work, you just have to try and see. :)
