Cooling pads worth it?

When gaming, my PB gets pretty hot and the fan gets pretty noisy. Do cooling pads work enough to justify the cost of one?

Some just raise the 'Book up a bit to give more air circulation underneath, but the good ones plug into the USB port for power and have little fans that actively circulate air under the computer.

And while I've never used one myself, I've heard good things about them. I was actually about to buy one for my 17" MBP, not because it's frighteningly hot, really (no worse than the last Dell laptop I used, anyway), but just to make it more comfortable to put on my lap or a soft surface without worrying about heat buildup.

Yeah, I'm definetely getting one that actually cools instead of just lifting up if I do get one. Maybe I'll stop by staples later today. Thanks.

Hi,

First impression of a cooling pad was that they're not really worth the money however there's one that Systemax sell (and no doubt other resellers) that's made of some phase-changing material and, I can vouch that this does work on a non-Mac OS notebook PC. (Am a switcher from WindowsXP to Mac OS X, so please excuse mentioning a non-Mac OS notebook PC) Guess there's no reason why the same shouldn't work with a PB.

I currently have the Targus one and on my Tibook it really cools it down a lot. When I'm playing games or doing any sort of intense processing, the internal fan rarely goes to high speed when it's on. I highly recommend it.

I got the Targus one, thanks for the tip. I haven't used it yet, but it seems good.
