I recently purchased this unit below for a Dell G series and my 2018 I9. Not a big fan in the past but both my laptops run hot especially when driving my 4k curved monitor and CAD or video editing work.

I’m still waiting for my new M2 unit to arrive but this stand does a fantastic job of reducing heat. I’ve seen as much as 15 degree reduction in temperature and the fans kick on much less. Well worth the minor investment. Helps extend battery life too. You can feel the temperature difference touching the body.

I run mine closed and docked when at my desk with all 4 fans on high. Definitely recommend.

I used the fan below, but the temperatures dropped only between 2 or 3c. fans are somewhat audible, but not much to be bothered with.

Amazed how well it works even with the lack of air flow vents I’m on the laptop.

2-3c is not working it me putting that under the Macbook. You might get the same effect replacing the Thermal paste but then again that would void warranty?

Someone should liquid metal his macbook sure would like to see the results 🤔

Mine is more like 6-8 degrees if not more on the one I’m using. Overall, it definitely runs cooler. Under peak load temps spike still, but overall well worth it. Yes, a liquid cooled frame with fans would be even more efficient at drawing heat out.

Just out of curiosity, but has anyone checked out the temperature of their closed MBP in a vertical stand? One would think that there would be better passive heat dispersal in that position--perhaps more with the hinged side down.

Could the difference in temperature decrease between @lavrishevo and @3Rock be due to one MBP is closed and the latter is open?

Yes could be I know from my 14” M1 that it suns hotter / louder fans when in clamshell mode.

Considering where the fan exhaust is one the M1 or M2s it is normal.

More likely the unit I’m using is better at cooling. 4 large fans that spin at 1200 rpm’s. From my limited research it seems to one of best rated pads.

Don’t ever want to try the cooling pads, so I will go ahead and try the KLIM Wind someday in the future see if that helps more than 2/3c temps lower then I got, though it was rated pretty high.

I think the MBP in the closed position gets hotter than one with the screen open. Closed position only 2 large cooling surfaces, open position, 4 cooling surfaces--the screen and the keyboard probably dissipate more heat energy better than the metal covers.

So I think @lavrishevo 's MBP probably had a higher starting temperature than @3Rock 's which would account for the greater drop that the OP noted.

I went ahead and return my 14 inch and now waiting for my newly purchased 16 inch with the cooler that you have and I’m hoping that it will keep it nice and cool or at least a bit more cooler than the old cooler I had.
