Hello.
I'm a teacher and I'm having a hard time with Numbers... or tables in Pages.
I want to create a ruling of three lines, like this:

I managed to create something that is looking like this but I'm having a hard time copying the format to other lines. It copies the dark color but not the height. The height is set to standard no matter what I do. So if I want to have like 12 rulings like this I have to make 36 lines in Numbers, then copy the darker line, then set the height for every line per hand.
Isn't it possible to copy paste the formatting of those three lines to the next and so on? This would save me so much work...

Why not use a font with lines, like e.g. Gruenewald VA for the 1. class? Download the zip with all variants here(»Computer TrueType Font«).

There are many such free or commercial fonts for the different typographic standard fonts use in the different class levels at e.g. primary schools (with and without different type of lines, outlined, or for example including a character of a drawing of house at the line start etc.).

EDIT: this site has you (hopefully 🤓) covered.

Thank you. I did know about Gruenewald and Peter Wiegel fonts but not about the line variants of his fonts.
The thing is: The font is so very different from the one used in my country that I can't use it for school.
the I, J and Z are completely different and some other letters look similar but are different at a closer look.

This is what I managed to design with Pages so far and I love it except that I can't copy paste the exact formatting of my lines to other table lines. It won't use the line above, the dotted line and the line heights if I copy paste.

Maybe I should change software and use something like indesign or so.

The easiest solution seems to me to create first the ruling|lines you want over the whole page or import a PDF with that ruling/lines.
  • Place it on the page in Pages.
  • Use the inspector to ”arrange” it to be in the background and then “lock” it in place.
  • Now add a new text box, adjust it to the size of the document page.
  • Edit the first line of text, sellect the desired font via the inspector and move it so it sits in the right place on top of the first line.
  • Add text the second line of the text box.
  • Select the text box, open the inspector and adjust the line spacing so the second text line matches the lines/ruling in the backgroun.
  • Every time you hit return your new text will be correctly placed on the line.

Works for whatever font:
