Hi everyone. I have a software dvd that has both the pc version of the program and the mac version. I want to make a copy as a backup, and I used disk utility to make an image, but it only copies the mac stuff. I want to make a copy so it includes everything, not just one. I have selected file>new image>image from "disc name" and then choose DVD/CD master and none for compression. When it's finished I mount it in windows 10, but it shows only the dmg file, etc. not the windows exe file.

Did I miss a step? Thanks.

If the dvd is not copy protected you can use several programs to copy it: "Burn" from Sourceforge is free. Give that a try.

Guys, thanks for your responses. It is not copy protected. I am able to make a cdr image and then convert it to an iso using hdiutil makehybrid -iso -joliet -o, and it does mount in windows, but what isn't happening is the windows stuff is not being copied to the image, just the mac stuff. Is this something that can't be natively done with disk utility, cloning an entire dvd?

I know chscag you suggested Burn. If this can't be done with disk utility then I may just have to look at that.

Sounds like you are copying not the entire disc, but only the part with the Mac software. Sometimes discs consist of several partitions too and you might have copied only a partition, not the entire disc. That or the disc is indeed copy-protected or unreadable by OS X. Make sure that you entered the entire disc, not just a partition. You can see this with the command "diskutil list" in Terminal (one of the diskX identifiers on the right-hand side is your DVD drive).

Code:
hdiutil makehybrid -o ~/Desktop/MyDVD /dev/diskX
