Hi Sorry for the noob question. I did seach but think I'm missing something due to not searching for the right terms or something.

My new (and first) IPhone- a 3Gs, is being delvered today. I have had a g1 iPod touch since the launch. I want to get a copy of everything I have on my Touch onto my new iPhone. And then, from that point on I want to keep them in sync.

To add a wrinkle, my hard drive failed on the computer I used to sync my touch with so it's been a while since I did a backup of the touch.

I assume the first thing I need to do is to do a backup of my Touch onto my new computer. It looks like the only way to do this is to buy software to do the copy? Everytime I google this I get 10 apps to buy. Is there not a way to manually xfer my Touch contents into a fresh iTunes install on the new computer?

I assume once I get things onto the new computer, I can just sync the iPhone?

Thanks in advance for the help!

You can have more than one device connected with iTunes. Meaning, you can have both your iPod touch and iPhone plugged into iTunes at the same time, and both will have the same stuff on it.

So just plug your iPhone into iTunes. That's all you have to do. Obviously, if you have anything you bought on your iPod but NOT in iTunes (e.g. Apps, music, etc.), you'll need to sync your iPod first, so that those items are in iTunes for your iPhone.

hmm- might it be just that easy? So after I install iTunes on the computer (being done as I type) I just need to connect my Touch and sync it. Will it do a backup at the same time?

Then- later I can connect my iPhone and it will bring everything over (assume via a sync)?

okay- I installed iTunes. When I connect my Touch, it gives me 2 options - 1 is an option that says it will replace the ipod contents and the other is to transfer purchases. I chose this option. and it seems to have copied my music and apps over. When I go to sync, it tells me that i will lose what's on my ipod.

The computer I installed iTunes on had an old version installed at one time. is that causing me a problem?
