How do I copy a MP4 movie from the list of movies in the movies folder on the Mac to movies on the iPad Air ?

Import the movie into iTunes... and then sync.

or drag the movie to the iPad if "manually manage music and videos" is enabled.

Thanks. Will try. My trouble was moving a movie into the iTunes library.
Apparently with my set up I cannot just drag it. Will make changes you suggest.
