Why is it that no OS maker (well, MS and Apple anyway) has got the smarts enough to give you the option when you copy (or move) a file to rename it if a file of the same name already exists in the destination!

Ha! What a brilliant idea. I've been using computers for over 10 years now, and that has never occured to me. Send it as a suggestion to Apple!

Windows does this. When you copy and paste in the same location, it will make the copy file and rename it "copy of <filename>

True, OS X also sometimes will add a ".1" to the end of the filename if it is the same. But, it doesn't always do this. And the ability to rename the file would be nice.
