Hi,

Seems like a lot "different" after going to Monterey.

Question, please:

As before, if I hold down ALT-SHIFT-4 I can, apparently move the cursor around an image and it
copies what I selected to pull up later, or incorporate into an eMail.

Before, what I selected appeared on the desktop.

Can't find it anymore. Used to work like a charm; really handy.

Where does it put the copied image now, in Monterey ?

BTW: any "better" way than using the shift-alt-4 ?

Thanks,
Bob

On my Mac, it puts the image in the downloads folder after a brief appearance on the desktop. To be honest, I can't remember if that was an option I selected or if it just does that.

After you ALT-SHIFT-4 and select the area, on the bottom right corner, you can click and copy it to the clipboard, open with Preview, mail it, etc. If you do not select it any of the options, mine still appears on my desktop.

You're misremembering your key commands. It's command-shift-4, not alt/option-shift-4. Option-shift-4 isn't creating any file at all.

You are correct. It is Command-Shift-4.
However, some keyboards (ones made for PCs like LogiTech keyboards) use "ALT" instead of "Command".

Hi Robert4,

I believe if you do a CMD-SHFT-5, then the Screenshot.app brings up a popup window with various buttons. The far right-hand button is for "Options" and if you click on the "Options" button you can then select where your screenshots will be placed. This popup window also allows you to capture the full screen (like CMD-SHFT-3), a window, or just an area (like CMD-SHFT-4); and it also has options to record the screen or an area.

Hope this helps,
Solouki

Most Windows keyboards will default to the Windows key being command and alt being option. This is awkward because the position of alt and Windows keys are reversed compared to command and option on Mac keyboards.

Hi,

Thanks for all the help with this.

Have it set up now the way I want.
Couldn't have done it without all the suggestions.

Great Forum; thanks so much for all the help; much appreciated.

Regards,
Bob
