copying files from old Mac to new Mac (permissions and exFat vs APFS)?

Hi,

what's the best way to copy files via ext. SSD from old Mac to new Mac?

I don't want to get permission chaos in some way. Just want to copy the files from the old to the new model.

What's the best way?

ExFAT avoids permissions issues, but certain file types (e.g. Photos library, apps) won’t like it. If it’s all basic file types then you should be good.
