Copying from iPod (USB2.0) SLOWW

Hello everyone,

I've run into a very weird issue. Basically, when I'm copying from a iPod (5th Gen.. don't know about others) the transfer is extremely slow. I notice that my 'inactive' RAM goes to about 1.3GB (I have 1.5GB of RAM) and that my 'free' RAM goes between 10MB and 20MB (Yes, MB!). The transfer is than about maybe 2MB/s, which is way too slow for USB2.

This is on a fresh boot, no applications loaded, nothing physically wrong with the connections or iPod.

I have a 15" Powerbook G4, the last revision (with high-res screen & dual-layer burner)

Do you have anything else hooked up to another USB port? Have you checked Activity Monitor under Disk Activity to see how much data is actually being read/written? Also, have you noticed a similar problem with other external USB storage devices? Have you tried another USB port?

Nothing else hooked up.

Disk activity is weird, it's about 10-15MB per second (I believe, Can't quite remember) and it continues to keep this pace up after the transfer is complete.

Other USB port tried; same result.

Ideas?

Okay, Inactive RAM is effectively Free RAM so don't worry about that for now, yours looks normal.

Is it quicker if you transfer from the Mac to the iPod rather than the other way around? Also, can you try a different USB cable? Can you try another USB device on your Mac?
