My old computer, a 2009 Mac Mini 2.26GHz (running unsupported Mojave) just died without warning but I have a recent Carbon Copy Cloner bootable copy on an external drive. I've just bought a refurbished 2014 Mac Mini i5 2.6 GHz running Catalina. Both drives are 250GB. Can I copy the bootable drive to the new computer and then upgrade to Catalina or are there problems? First the Mojave is an unsupported version that I got from this forum. Second, the file format changed from Mojave to Catalina, didn't it? Any help you can give me would be much appreciated since I'm having so many problems setting up the new computer like accessing bookmarks, Calendar and Contacts information not readily transferable from bootable copy.

Give Migration Assistant a try. I'm pretty sure your unsupported version of Mojave won't be an issue.

However, unsupported or not, a migrated account has, for me, not gone perfectly at times. My next upgrade will be from a Mojave maching to either Monterey or Big Sur and I'm planning to do a clean install and reinstall of everything.
