I have a copy of some linux embedded systems on my mac, debian systems. It's an exact copy of the files with all permissions and links intact (done from tar and then un-tar). Just for convenience in looking up stuff.

If I need to copy these then I get a prompt from finder than I must enter my password to access some files. I've narrowed this down to the "root" folder in the linux '/' root. The only difference I can see is that these root folders are 700 permission, all other are 755. All files and folders have me as the owner.

Finder can browse these folders no problem. Why do I need to enter my mac user password to copy these folders. It''s only the folder, copying the contents does not ask for the password.

I also get error -36 when doing a bulk copy now on certain files. Yet if I copy the files individually they are fine.

I don't get understand why it needs a password or it's not happy with certain files, I am the owner of all files and directories.

Found the password problem. Cant quite explain it. One folder in the "root" directory of the image was not allowing me access, even though I was listed as full owner on "ls -al". had to use "sudo ls" for it to let me see the contents. and "sudo cp ..." to copy into a normal folder.

The folder is now gone and needs no password to copy. Doubt the error 36 is gone though.
