Copying Software RAID1 Volume

Hello,

I've got an Mac Pro running Snow Leopard and I was hoping to replace my 1TB software RAID1 (2x1TB Internal SATA) with a 2TB software RAID1 (2x2TB Internal SATA) . I believe this would involve copying the 1TB volume to the 2TB volume and then growing the JHFS+ partition to 2TB. I've got a 1TB external enclosure at my disposal for shuffling around the data if need be. I've got a 1.5TB time capsule with my data backed up. What would be the best way to go about this?

If I understand you clearly you wish to take the 1TB Software RAID1 from Disk Utility and make it into a 2TB, right? Do you have 2 X 1TB drives empty? The best way to do this is to make the RAID1 by combining both the empty 1TB drives into a 2TB RAID1, Next use Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper! and CLONE the whole 1TB RAID1 with all your data on it to the 2TB RAID1. Thats the best answer I can think of..

Basically, you have this setup: 1 2x1TB RAID1 - wait a minute? Do u have 2x500MB Drives which the both combined in a RAID1 would be 1TB? If you have 2 x 1TB drives that is already 1TB+1TB which would be then 2TB.

Anyway, the best answer would be is to clone your current RAID1 to the NEW RAID1 which uses 2 x 1TB drives for a total of 2TB.

Thanks for your response. I currently have two 1TB drives that are configured as a 1TB RAID1 volume (mirror, so capacity is that of just a single drive). The RAID1 volume is used as a system disk and contain both OSX and user data.

I want to migrate the data to a new 2TB RAID1 volume that I'll be creating using two 2TB drives.

I think I'll give Carbon Copy Cloner a go and see if I get the desired result. Thanks for your suggestion!

Thats how I got my RAID 0 to work Carbon Copy Cloner does the job! It clones an exact duplicate of your start up drive/drives and sets the bootable flag on them in the end. The result: an exact duplicate of your bootable system drive
