Whats the difference between the processor?

The processors weren't listed in the two you posted.

But, of course, the Intel Core 2 Extreme will be more powerful. The "Extreme" series processors are typically popular among high-performance gaming machines.

I will be play WoW and other Blizzard games, I might dual-boot to play Warhammer Online. Anyone have review of the machine?

the only reason I would get an extreme processor is if you overclock because those have an unlocked multiplier. If you are not trying to break world records and work on your ln2 pouring technique I wouldn't waste the money.

extremes are the same as the normal chips but with unlocked multipliers, so an extreme chip will not be more powerful if it is at the same clock and from the same chipset.

Extreme chips are a waste of money regardless of your budget. Stick with the 2.8Ghz.

I just thought they called it a 2.8 GHz Extreme because it was the fastest chip of the series at the time.

Also, the extreme chips has a higher TDP, so it'll draw more power and create more heat.

But who cares in a desktop anyways

The Extreme is actually cheaper with a bigger HDD. I think I'll stick with the normal one then!

No, it just denotes the unlocked multi. But after awhile Intel figured out most people aren't going to pay another $400 for the unlocked multi over the normal version of the same chip, so they quit selling normal versions of the top 1 or 2 speed bins for their best chip line in a market segment (or delayed their release for months after the extreme version, such as with the Q9650 vs QX9650).

the extreme one is cheaper, and has a bigger hard drive, so that would be the obvious choice. the core 2 extreme is a better deal, that is the one you should get, the bigger hard drive will be helpful for your dual-boot.

To be honest, I don't think you should get the extreme one. There is simply no difference between the CPUs.

But a big difference of the whole structure.
The extreme one is the old model with 667 DDR2 memory...

The £969 model is the latest one. Just £20 difference, you do the math

Cool... I didn't know that. I just figured that because the top speed has always been the "extreme" version.
