Not entirely true. Both Merom and Conroe are being marketed as "Core 2 Duo"

Be sure to check out the link - it specifically points out the portable pc version.

That would be Merom - yes?

Hooray!

Considering it says that the desktop version shipped early, and THEN went further to say that the mobile version was shipping a month early (oh look, it's the 21st od July, when was Merom coming out? 22 August!)

I think the possibilities of Macbook Pros being updated is extraordinarily high.
As is the possibility of new XServes, Mac Pros, iMacs, Macbooks and Mac Minis (Tho still with C1D, just specs changed to take advantage of Yonah price drops), plus Leopard.

Great. They are going to have to roll out an entire new line of macs. This August 7 should be verry interesting.

BTW, Just as a statement, I personally would count the iMac as a professional computer now anyway When I bought my mini tower (the Cube) it clearly pwned the iMacs. Now, on the other hand, iMacs are far superior to the new mini towers (Mac Minis) in every way. Considering it's small, and more powerful than an MBP, I think that an iMac upgrade would fit in nicely at WWDC2006. But then again, with a 450Mhz G4, any computer looks like pro to me . Sorta like a small bug (like an aphid) looking at us, who are similarly looking at Lord Steve...

Want iMac Ultra at WWDC. >2.4Ghz Conroe, 512Mb X1800, and 23" screen.
(Suddenly I feel like a twelve year old again...)

They CANNOT deny us our Merom MBPs!

I believe I will be holding off on my purchase of a new mbp for college...till at least August 7th :p

*crosses fingers*

by the way if lets say new macbook pro's are announced...what are the chances of it actually shipping out to consumers before september? (september is when my school starts)

Not a clue!

I also wanted a MBP, but due to the fact of carting it to Uni every day (5 hours total travelling each day) and the risk of getting such an expensive piece of hardware stolen, I'm leaning towards a maxed out iMac plus the bottom Macbook. For about the same price as a maxed out MBP.
Hence the extreme lobbying for a new iMac with NEW GRAPHICS CARD and CONROE (Or Merom, They're both good. Mainly the GPU). And a MB price drop would be nice.

I would say the chances of MBP shipping before September are pretty high. If Apple and Lenovo get first dibs of Merom, and Merom is already shipping, well... Let's just say 2+2=... or more accurately, (Release of new chip a few weeks before major Mac event) + (Steve Jobs) + (Mass Longing) = Merom MBP at WWDC

lets just hope the next macbook doesn't mimic old mcdonalds farm, or my sisters easy bake oven

some more battery life would be great too

gosh who am i kidding, i want apple to just make mac os x available in a box that i go get at a store and throw it on my (big fat and ugly according to this site) thinkpad (which ironically is smaller than even a 12 inch powerbook, weighs less too, and has double the battery life)

:D :D

Erasmus - your "formula" is the exact same one I am seeing. We really are in a new game now that Apple has gone Intel. Apple "must" use the latest Intel releases when they become available as the competition (SONY, DELL, HP,....) WILL be using them. Very few would be willing to pay top $$$ for yesterday's cpu hardware. The direct 1 to 1 comparison between Apple's cpu and the competitions cpu puts Apple on a new playing field. There is no more cover about how PPC design offsets Pentium (or whatever) speed. Its Intel to Intel now. The historic upgrade cycles may be of little value now.

Merom based MBPs shipping around WWDC / late August is most likely. My guess is that the current progress in fixing the shoddy workmanship of QUANTA will translate to the Merom model as the case, screen, cooling pipes, logic board, etc. will probably carry over. That will also make for a faster implementation.

YES - looking good!!!!!!!

One other thought - Apple / Intel have (we hope) heard the complaints regarding heat and cpu associated whine. This will be a good indicator as to how capable Intel will be in responding to customer (or end user!) feedback. I think Intel fabs the logic boards and specs the components - have they heard us???

I hope so - we have all HEARD their product and

WE WILL BE LISTENING

The low end is only $150 is isnt it ..? Then again the Core 2 Extreme is over a grand

What clock speed is the Core 2 EE starting at?

Either way I will be happy with the base Core 2 Duo chip that has 4MB of L2, not that it would make a huge difference, but at least it is a nice addition.

Edit: I can see it now.. The lower model will use the 2.16Ghz Core 2 Duo, the higher model will use the 2.33Ghz chip, and if you can afford the $1000 price premium, you can BTO one with the EE chip :D

Probably an unrelated question, but I'm considering a new Apple purchase — supposing a model isn't updated at the WWDC, does that historically mean that updates are unlikely for "a while"? I note from the Buyer's Guide that every desktop model is currently on "Don't Buy - Updates soon" so I'm reluctant to buy right now.

It supposedly gives out 20% more performance on the same battery life.

I am hyped to see wats coming out on August 7th now!!

I'm just slightly bummed because I feel like I constantly am waiting for the "best" to come out and these rumors always make me delay my actual purchase but bring hope at the same time ...such a predicament

i'd rather know that i am getting the top of line in tech when i start college though :p

This will be the best Apple has to offer in the mobile sector until Q2 2007, so you'd be waiting quite a while longer for anything better than what's to come at WWDC.

I just hope it comes out before september lol. Oh I'm so excited. I feel like I shouldn't get this excited just because I've been following the whole "true" video ipod rumors for a long time and have continuously been disappointed with the delays :(

everyone cross your fingers! :)
