Core 2 Extreme on 24" refurb?

I understand that it is out of stock but it'll be back. I tried using the chat tool on apple's site but those people are pissing me off. It seems to me like they just read the website for answers to my questions and it's like, "Hello? I could've done that myself!"

So my question is: I'm assuming that the processor is a Penryn but is it a dual core or a quad core?

If you go to Intel's site it says that the Core 2 Extreme comes in either a dual core or a quad core version.

Tell me about it. It's so frustrating. On the site it says: Chat live with an apple expert.

Well most of their replies are automated and most of their "expertise" is the fact that they know how to use a web browser and the apple site.

Anyway, so it's a Merom chip?

That means that, according to wikipedia, it's a 65nm chip and it's dual core.

So which is better: 2.8 GHz Core 2 Duo Penryn (dual core/65nm) or 2.8 GHz Core 2 Extreme Merom (dual core/65 nm)

The new one (Penryn) is better.

It is cooler, and even slightly faster.

Even though it's an Extreme over a Duo? Does that not really make a difference? Is there more of a difference between a Merom and a Penryn than there is between an Extreme and a Duo?

Yup, the 'Extreme' doesn't mean anything. (To the best of my knowledge)

The CPU's are exactly the same except the Penryn is on the 45nm process (less heat/power) and has 2mb more L2 cache (6mb instead of 4mb in the Merom version)
