This morning I discovered an app with a magnifying glass icon on the "open app" area of my dock. I says it was created/modified in February. I cannot find any reference to it on the internet or in the app store. Can anyone advise what it is, and why it showed up? Thanks.

Right click on it and select Options -> Show in Finder.

Does that give you any more data?

Thanks for the response. It is Macintosh HD>Users>[me/the admin]>Applications>CoreExclusive. The other folders in that level Applications folder are Chrome Apps [an empty folder] and five other folders which share the same icon of a teal circle with a white magnifying glass: AddUpgrade; CompleteReady; DeluxeFocus;ServiceBuilder; and SystemSpecial. Each of them were created/modified/opened on the same day and each was created between the end of March and April 20, except for CoreExclusive which opens everyday and lands in my doc. I first noticed it when I couldn't restart my computer because I had to force quit it. And they are all either 11.7 or 11.8 MB.

When I did a search I found references to the "Crowd Exclusive" virus/adware, which also uses a magnifying glass icon. Looks like you need to clean things up.

OP:

I suggest you download MalwareBytes and run it.

IMPORTANT:
Select the "home" option.
It's a FREE download

IMPORTANT:
You DO NOT NEED TO BUY A SUBSCRIPTION to run MalwareBytes.
It will run FOREVER IN FREE MODE.

When you open it, IGNORE the button to "Upgrade Now" or "Activate License".
Just click "Scan".
Again, you DO NOT have to buy the pay-for version!
