Core i5 or i7?

Awaiting the release of the quad core iMacs (of which Futureshop and Bestbuy lists the i5 to be available on Nov.3rd here in the Great White North!!!), but I'm undecided if I should save my hard earned bucks and just get the i5.

See, I do video editing on Final Cut Express and I know the quads will be beneficial to slicing my ecoding times in half. But which to choose between the two?

i7 won in the other poll. However consensus is that for the budget minded the i5 is the better bang for the buck. If you know your programs will require HT, then i7 is the obvious choice. Both are "better" than the upper C2D option.

i'd get the core i5. Not worth spending an extra 200 on the i7. I could buy an i7 860 cpu for less than $250. Why are they charging an extra 200 over the i5 when it goes for $200 already? Rip-off.

Nice to see I;m still getting responses to this hehehe...oh well, let's keep it going then. Specially now I noticed that the i5 is getting a lot more favours due to its cost effect.

Donster, save the $200, get an i5 and get an secondary display. You will enjoy that a LOT more than the minor speed bump you will get by going i7. Trust me...
