How is the 27" for games? Have we gotten any benchmarks yet?

My macbook pro was stolen a week or so ago, was considering replacing it with an imac instead, but now that I think about it, a 9600m 512mb at 1440x900 may not be that much different from a 512mb 4850 at 1440p

I really am worried that the 512mb video card will severely limit gaming at such a high resolution. If it was a 1GB card I would feel better about it.

Did either of you read my post or not really?

yes.....which is why i said if you want to game, get the best gpu you can. dont worry about the cpu as todays cpus will all be adequate

so get the best gpu you can afford

a 4850 is better than a 9600

if you really want to game, build a pc for like 600 (that you can continue to upgrade) and get a base imac. the cost would be like the same as a 27 in imac, if not cheaper.

Still lost as to how you are answering my question.

So, basically: The 9600m only has to run at 1440x900. The 4850 has to run at 2560x1440. I was considering buying the imac instead, but now that I realize the 4850 is only 512MB, won't that be a problem running at 2560x1440?

im not sure. however, you can always run that imac at lower resolution you know and just deal with black bars in worst case

What can you do about it? If you don't like the iMac's 512mb, buy a Mac Pro or a PC.

No, I need to replace the MBP that was stolen or switch to an iMac, I'm just wondering if the 4850 is a problem for playing games at 2560x1440

CoD4 is about all that will be playable at the native resolution around a bearable 30 FPS.

2006 to 2007 games look good.

I can tell you from personal experience on the PC side...

I have a 4870 Sapphire Toxic Edition 512MB card output to a 1920 X 1080 resolution monitor. And I seem to have trouble with some games on high settings (getting the wanted 30 FPS~).

Anywho, you're going to have to settle a bit with the GPU offered in the iMac. Definitely going to have to manually scale the resolution down to get decent FR. Either that or play older games like Eidorian suggested.
