a little while ago, ever so stupidly, i attempted to update safari to the latest version on my 2015 mbp on mojave. of course, safari stopped on mojave at v.14 or thereabouts - so now i'm left with a greyed out safari icon:

i can't figure out a way to fix this, and it's driving me up the wall. i've tried uninstalling with third party apps, changing permissions, deleting preferences.

any advice welcome.

I think you need to completely restore your computer from a back up prior to the installation of the updated Safari.

Disable SIP, delete Safari, install the last version for Mojave:
