Cosmetic Damage

The Speakers of my MacBook Air'13 ( 2018 model ) look shiny now. I used a car vacuum to clean them but after cleaning, the black thingy has peeled off and it looks weird now. If I take my Mac to Apple store, will they fix it?

Those grates actually don’t cover the speakers. The speakers are located underneath your keyboard. With that being said, it looks to me as if you have something stuck inside those grates rather than a coating removed. Unfortunately Apple couldn’t actually replace anything as it is cosmetic and they would not cover that under AppleCare or the included warranty. Perhaps if you have some type of adhesive tape or something similar you could remove whatever substance has found it’s way into your grates.

Hmm. Well I really don’t think it looks like anything’s peeling off based on the provided images. I’m not sure what else to recommend unfortunately. Maybe another member might have a helpful suggestion?

Actually not only me but many other people have been facing same issue. Moreover when I used the tape and removed it, I saw very teeny tiny black circles like thing which makes the speaker grills look black. Others are saying that Apple drills holes into the aluminium based bodies of the Mac to an extent but not entirely and then paint those holes black through something. Many also claim these speaker grills are mostly for cosmetic purposes and that the actual speakers are protected. I know it looks something is stuck really bad in these grills but believe me that's not the case. If something were to be inside these, it should've been out by now.
