I have one 160GB AppleTV bought from new when it first came out. Absolutely great, not hacked, does just what I want it to do. Been looking for a 2nd one for another room, 40GB or 160GB, on eBay and the like for many months now, always hoping that the prices come down to a real bargain. Also look at old Mac Mini's too.

The AppleTVs used to go for about £80 here, I was hoping to get one for under £50 (The Mac Mini's all go for £120-£160).
But since the new AppleTV has been announced, they seem to go for £135-£145 now. What's going on ?

They went up in value because they go above and beyond the new aTV.

They went up in value because in some people's opinion they go above and beyond the new aTV.

Fixed it for you.

But yeah, i've noticed the same trend here in America on Amazon.com. I was hoping maybe they would drop down to like $50 so that i could pick up an "old" Apple TV for the bedroom and get a new one for the main tv in the living room. No dice. They have actually gone up in price for both the 40 and 160 GB models. I'm referring to used units of course.

Apple doesn't discount their stuff much. Expercom.com has 160GB Apple TVs for $142.55. That's the lowest price I've seen for a new device. I bought a mint condition (clean, box plus all accessories) 40GB Apple TV on Ebay a few weeks ago for $96. I had been looking for one for a couple of months. You have to be patient with Ebay - people frequently bid items up into silly territory.

...our base PX just marked the prev gen 160Gb model down to $119 and I was considering picking one up but I don't know if they are worth it since I also just got a prev gen 2.53Ghz mini to use for my HTPC?...
