Could a new MBA be a 'one more thing' amid the new desktop announcements?

I agree, with no keynote there won't be "one more thing". But the MacBook Air is very old and they need a refresh in the immediate future.
I was wondering the same thing. How does Apple usually roll these things out? Do the iMacs always get released with the Mac Pro and the MBA with the Macbook Pros & Macbook, or would it just be a coincidence that they are rolling out the new desktop models together tomorrow? Doesn't Apple usually release new products on a Tuesday or Wednesday earlier in the month? That is, isn't it a little unusual to release product redesigns this late in the month?
The Buyer's Guide has the release dates of Apple products going back several years, it should help to answer your questions.
I've tried Dell's, Lenovo x301's and most recently the Sony Z.
I tried so hard to make the Sony Z work for me. I could not get used to the screen, it isn't the usual xbrite Sony display as on previous Z's. This is antiglare and a pleasure to use outside or near a bright window, then even the incredibly small fonts don't bother me.
The problem was in artificial light. The screen has a 'sheen' or dull / fuzzy look to it, text is faint, no matter how many times I calibrated the monitor and adjusted the ClearType I could not get a display that wouldn't give me strained, dry, tired eyes. Very disappointing. Others at notebook review have posted similar concerns.
The other was the trackpad, but I could get past that by using a mouse.
With a lot of reluctance Sony let me exchange it for another Z and looking back I think I wanted a full powered notebook with hdmi and more ports in a 3lb package so bad that I was fooling myself into thinking the screen was better on the replacement Z, lol. It may of been a little better but compare it to a MacBook Air or MacBook Pro screen and after that to me the Sony display is unusable, not worth the headaches, literally.
With my previous Sony experiences aside from my PlayStation and now my experience with the 2010 Sony Z's I don't plan on buying another Sony product again. To much of a hassle zooming in on text all the time, calibrating the display, exchanging, blah.
There does not seem to be much of a pattern, at least one that one could use to predict what "should" be released in the next release.
I, too, have a rather low opinion of most of Sony's products. Like you, I have liked my PS3 and I have had a several high end TVs that were wonderful, too. Otherwise, though, yuk! I had an early BetaMax videotape player I bought in the '70s that was never anything but a headache. I also had a high end hand held tape recorder that I got in the '80s, which was also a dog. I absolutely would not hesitate to buy another upper end Sony HDTV or whatever finally replaces the PS3 but that would be about it.

I am a major PS3 fangal. Too bad Bayonetta was so terrible a port, and we can't get Mass Effect.
After reading all the comments about the Z I went over the mall to take a look and fool around with it.
IMHO, it felt cheap and plastic, did not like the track pad AT ALL. I kept swiping my fingers and nothing happened!
Even tough my original MBA is comparatively slow against todays new anythings, even with my 64GB SSD, it has a feel of elegance and solidity to it. Long live the MBA!
Sounds like a few thing may come out tomorrow but I doubt they would throw 4-5 products out at once. MBA update will probably come in-between new Mac Pros and MacBook Pro's ~Nov. maybe next month.. I still maintain the 13" MBP is the way to go!

Yes, it's different, at times I miss the larger 15" screen when I'm away from the 24" ACD, also wishing the MBP was 3lbs, LOL. It is simpler, I've made some compromises/adjustments but overall I think it's the way to go ... the only thing I'm wondering now is if I should have a 15" instead of the 13" for travel, but then I'm back to 6lbs .... double the weight of the MBA or Sony Z. A 15" MacBook Air would be incredible, for my needs at least.
What did you think of the Z's display?
I hate to burst your bubble but I have never played a Playstation game in my life. I am a long time home theater nerd and after a lot of research decided that the PS3 was the best Blu-ray player going. I have had my PS3 for several years and it has stood the test of time. I was so enthusiastic about mine that I bought one for my grandson last year. He watches a lot of BDs, too, but he plays a lot of games.
The only real hope would be that Apple cannot stockpile a bunch of MBA logic boards to meet future demand before a real upgrade beyond C2D. If that were to be true, it makes a hell of a lot more sense for Apple to move the MBA over to the Nvidia 320m. As a cost factor, it would cost Apple a lot less to run one Nvidia GPU/setup through production rather than continue on the MBA with the 9400m.
We need to hope the MBA is a real seller so it makes sense for Apple to not run all of the logic boards needed to handle demand until the beyond C2D CPU is introduced. I certainly am ready for an update, but I would say the chances aren't great. We can just hope that the lack of true rumors coming through is just as in the past, no real measure of what's to come. Perhaps the 3,1 MBA is ready and waiting for us MBA faithful to order in just a few hours... PLEASE!
