Could a Windows virus damage OS X?

I am going to be purchasing a new Mac Pro and will probably install either XP or Vista on it. My question is, is there any way that a virus / worm / etc. that is infected on the Windows portion somehow damage the OS X portion? Or is it completely separate? I do not mean if I can get a virus while in OS X, but just that if my XP/Vista partition gets messed up by a virus, will that have an impact on Leopard?
