Suppose your iPad battery couldn’t hold charge anymore because it is just too old or it has gone through too many cycles of charges recharges. Can the iPad still be used as long as you plug it in?

My 3 year old iPad Pro‘s battery has been acting up lately. It just doesn’t hold much charge anymore. It may be on its way out. I am going to hold it as long as I can until the release of iPad Pro with mini LED sometimes next year.

Yes, it should work just fine when plugged in.

I haven’t encountered this yet myself, but I guess that even with a very low battery health it should work just fine via the charger.

iPhones require that the battery is operational is some way...it doesn't have to be great but it does need to hold some charge. If the battery is completely dead or you remove it, they will NOT stay powered on.

I believe this is the same for the iPad.

Huh. Meanwhile, our iPad 2 is still alive and holds around 6-7 hours of usage time.

Our old 4-year old iPad 3 had longer battery life than the brand new iPad Pro 9.7 that replaced it. An unfortunate result of going thinner (although I greatly appreciated the ~200g weight loss).

The basic iPads and Air 3 with A9, A10 and A12 phone chipsets have pretty great battery life though. They’re comparable to old iPads, mayhaps even exceeds them.
