I’m thinking iPhone XR like except a bit smaller and plastic backed. I think it could work. IMO the problem with the 5C was 1) Wall Street assumed the “C” stood for cheap and were making all sorts of predictions of a low cost device so when Apple announced the price it was disappointing; 2) during the keynote Apple kept referencing how it was just like the iPhone 5 which to some reinforced it was a year old device and to others bothered them because they just wanted an iPhone 5 $100 cheaper; 3) it being colored plastic turned some off thinking plastic isn’t premium.

I think if Apple came out with a smaller iPhone XR that was plastic backed in a range of vibrant iPod nano like colors and treated it as a brand new device (not a replacement for an existing iPhone) and priced it similar to the SE it could be quite successful. Maybe a few years ago Apple execs would’ve been worried about cannibalizing more expensive iPhones but I think they know now people are just not thrilled about $1K phones. A $349 or $399 phone sale is better than no phone sale at all. And this could be a range where they swipe out colors in the summer and fall to keep it fresh. I honestly think it would be more appealing than just keeping around older devices and dropping the price. I wish Apple wouldn’t have given up on the 5C so quickly. It was a good device it just wasn’t priced right.

I think there could be a place for one. Quality plastic is strong and resilient.
Just came across wife’s old 3GS and boy it fealt solid in my hand.
Recently recycled out my old 3GS. It wouldn’t start or charge so had no way to wipe info. Had to take a sledgehammer to it and it took many blows until I was satisfied it was sufficiently destroyed.
The plastic back was almost the last to go.
