Hi

I just got a deal for an 8-core Mac Pro for 32000 CZK which is around 1449 USD. The Apple computers in Europe are always around 20-25% more expensive than in US, so please bear that in mind =D

My question is. Can this machine last for a long time? If I don't end up keeping it, my friend would eventually buy it from me for the same price at least

The things that are included and specs are as follows

- LED cinema display 24" (they still sell for quite high on Ebay Germany)
- 8-core 2.26
- 8GB ram (4 slots are still free)
- 256GB Samsung SSD + 640GB Drive + 2TB Drive
- Radeon 4870

Now, for about 1449 USD, I'd say that's quite a good deal, isn't it? I never owned a Mac Pro before, but in my relatively short time on earth, I have owned 12 macs in total so far. This would be something new for me.

Only yesterday I have discovered, that it's actually possible to upgrade the firmware on these machines to make it think it's actually 5,1. That's great news. I would definitely do some upgrades in the future, namely the CPU, GPU and RAM, all which would cost me about 200-250 each so somewhere around 750 for a total upgrade.

So what do you guys think? Should I convince the guy to lower the price a bit, or would you say it's a good deal and a future-proof computer? Let's say Another 3-4 years out of it would be great.

I don't need it for any demanding tasks btw. I'm just a Macintosh enthusiast =D I owned a number of powerful systems, but never a Mac Pro, "just because"

Thanks!

It will last a long time until 2020 it will still be good. You can upgrade that model to 12 core when you need more power. That price is normal for Europe.
