"could not open communication device"

I have only started having this problem now when i try to use my dialup. After I close my ibook G4's lid and it goes to sleep when i open it again and i try to connect to the internet useing the modem i get "could not open communication device" error. I have not changed anything except dl the latest apple updates but i dont know if it started from then on i just know i never had this problem before and its pissing me off. any ideas?

Seems a little obvious, but have you tried restarting, or shut down? If this doesn't help, what does it say is your connection devise under preferences? (Mine on my intel iMac says external modem, your's is internal i'm guessing)

yes the only way to get the modem to work again after it does it is to restart but i shouldnt have to restart just to get the modem to work when i was just connected like five seconds before that. that is why im complaining once i get that error nothing fixes it except a restart and sometimes more than one.
