so i have this maxtor harddrive layin around formatted into mac and when i go to install 10.3 on it says i cant install on it whys this?

Specifics would be nice on the computer. Also is the drive internal or external? Anyway make sure that you have it formatted properly. If the drive is formatted on an Intel machine its being defaulty formatted to GUID format scheme, so youll have to go into Disk Utility and go to partition then options and select Apple Partition Map instead of GUID. Also, it may be that the drive is not being formatted properly. Format it again with different software and try again. Also check in Disk Utility that the drive has "Owners Enabled" (bottom of disk utility). If not, then something is not going right and you will have to manual enable owners via terminal and vsdbutil

oh well this was a few days ago so here goes i put the harddrive in my emac and wanted to install 10.3 on it. (i took out my other one with leopard on it out and put this one in for my imac g3 since no dvd or cd drive :p) So i made sure it was formatted right in disk utility and as a maxtor so then it says it cant be installed so out of curiosity, i put in my leopard dvd and it said i could install it on there, so i put 10.3 back in and opened the viewer thing to see the errors and then when it went to install, to see if it would work it did :p i dont know why it wouldn't so i installed and took my emac apart agn and put it in my imac and worked so yea... problem solved? i guess :D
