Could not stay aboard the Droid ship... But not because of the phone

Please don't use this as a "HAHA told you the Droid would suck!!!1!!" retort.

The Droid was actually a brilliant, impressive and FUN phone.

But today I found out Verizon has a new policy with their smart phones - $350 early termination fee for smart phones, double what it costs on ANY other carrier in the United States.

I found out about this and was ready to rip the Verizon salespeople a new hole. EXCUSE ME?!? :mad: You keep your double ETF - I'm returning the phone and canceling my week-old contract with you. How dare you.

Back to AT&T and iPhone.

So you decided to cancel the contract on a phone you like just because the cancellation fee is higher than other carriers? What?

I always though that... you know... you buy a phone and use it, not buy it and then plan to cancel the contract and return the phone :confused:

Most likely is to avoid people opening a new line, getting a subsidized phone, canceling the line, and selling the phone on ebay for profit.

OP, you don't know how good you have it. In most carriers (outside of the U.S. I mean) if you wanna cancel a contract you still have to pay the remaining of your contract. Having an ETF, yes, even a $350 ETF, is getting out easy.

If you like your Droid better and like Verizon Better then ETF shouldN't be a issue. This ismore about wanting to play with a new toy IMO. Oh well what ever makes you happy. So are you ripping Droid now on the Droid forums or are we the only Lucky ones.
 
Have a few friends with the Droid; they love it, and love Verizon, so ETF or not, they wouldn't switch. I guess the Droid is more reason for them to stick with Verizon.

I want to go buy a Droid myself, but obviously I'd have to buy the imported GSM version… I despise Verizon. I wouldn't use them if service was free.
 
What others have echo'd, IF you love the droid what does the ETF matter? Its not like you can buy the droid cancel the contract then take it to another carrier.
What should have caused you to cancel the contract is Verizon's nickel & dime tactics.

So the reason why you ditched Verizon and Droid is because you have problem with commitment?

How exactly is Verizon's ETF, and your commitment problem relating to iPhone?
 
Too bad the salespeople didn't explain to you that the new ETF's for advanced devices start today, November 15th. It has been $175 up till now. So, you actually had a $175 ETF had you looked closer at your account. But I agree with the other people in this thread, if you liked your phone so much and you enjoyed Verizon, then why did it matter? I hope you realize that AT&T is going to do the exact same thing in less than 6 months. AT&T is losing a TON of money on people flipping iPhones.

From what I understand, the BOGO Blackberry deal is what caused this for Verizon. People were opening new lines to get the other blackberries, then canceling the lines and selling them outright. No hard proof on the matter, but that's what I've heard and it seems logical.

If you already got a droid before today then you still have the old ETF amount.
But I feel bad for people getting smartphone from Verizon from now on. A $350 2 year contract ETF? Thats as bad as Canadas 3 year contracts.
 
$350 ETF with vericraps data plans?! And this concludes why the FCC needs to beat the **** out of AT&T and verizon. Still I'm considering this handset but I don't want it to die in like one month like all of verizons "revolutionary phones"....i honestly think the iPhone will always be king no mattter what...it's almost as if phone companys are not even trying....

I wouldn't be surprised if the other carriers adopted higher contract cancellation rates as well.

I'm in the UK and even I knew that. Christ, TheSpaz is getting a new pal on the ignore list (I really wish that blocked threads though, really really do)

Also, I think this guy is worse than TheSpaz. He's just incredibly anal, this guy's a complete troll.

you cancel soley because the etf was higher but to cancel, you payed the etf

After a year, the ETF would have dropped to $230, about the same as the $200 ATT bounty that iPhone 3G users had to pay to upgrade to the 3GS.

The higher ETF is because devices cost so much in subsidies nowadays, and people were abusing the system.

It was also predictable, because the feds were starting to ask that ETFs better reflect the actual costs to the carriers. Sometimes we're better off not complaining.
