I have read a lot about "pwning" ?? your iphone and seen the vids and posts etc. The vid looks smart and relatively easy but what does it mean?

I bought a iphone in feb, I wanted to run my existing o2 and orange sim cards in it as well as installing all these neat 3rd party apps. The overwhelming responses and replies from these forums was that "Ziphone" was the way to go, one click and bam!

I did this and was extremely satisfied and impressed.

I currently run a 1.1.4 iphone "did it all" with ziphone 2.5c [just checked with baseband info and I'm on bl3.9]

What is the reality of my phone being "permanently downgraded to BL3.9" ?? Which I have read so much about?? Does it matter??? I kind of knew I wouldn't have any warranty for my phone as i wasn't intending it to be used how apple and o2 would like. I took this as granted. If I mess with my phone, it's my own stupid fault for messing, fair cop. Is there any other reason why it's so bad to be downgraded to 3.9??

I wish to upgrade in june to the new software update and so, looking for the best method.

If you are ON AN OFFICIAL O2 contract then as long as you can return your phone to its original condition then your warranty will still remain (as long as you don't say you messed with it to Apple/O2 should you have a problem!).

ZiPhone downgraded your phone which came with 4.6 to 3.9.

If you were to go back to Apple and they checked the phone they would see it says 3.9 and KNOW you hacked it and invalidate your warranty.

The jailbreak/3rd party apps can easily be removed by a restore and setting up the phone as new when its finished restoring and activating with itunes but the unlock will remain with the incorrect bootloader.

BootNeuter (which is part of pwnage but can be downloaded through installer separately) allows you to change your bootloader back to 4.6 and STAY unlocked and neutered which isn't possible with ZiPhone.

Then if you wanted to take it back to O2/Apple all you would have to do is turn off the neuter and unlock and reflash the phone and it will be locked again and then restore in iTunes and it will be like new.

However there is no disadvantage to having bootloader 3.9 from a practical perspective as all original iPhones came with it.

When 2.0 comes out the only way to use 3rd party apps will be with pwnage - ZiPhone will NOT work.

Pwnage consists of 2 parts - Part 1 hacks your phone so it can install custom firmware not created by Apple (the "iPwner" button does that). Part 2 unlocks your phone (BootNeuter does that).

By the way ZiPhone is very dangerous and your VERY lucky you didn't break your phone beyond repair with it!

For more information about pwnage/bootneuter head to the hackint0sh forums for pwnage at http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=146

All the information you need it there!

Once you install pwnage you can upgrade your bootloader back to 4.6.

Nobody knows for sure, but it looks like you will need to pwn your 1.1.4 install before upgrading to 2.0 in June, because the iLiberty/ziphone method will no longer work with the new version, but the pwnage concept probably will.

So I went ahead and 'pwned' my iPhone. I wasn't going to but I love messing :p Plus it was nagging me that there was a possibility to return my bl to it's original. Although I wasn't 100% sure about what it was something was telling me that I needed it restored, perhaps a bit of ocd creeping out lol

And I must say the whole process was great. I just checked with bassband info and my current bootloader is 4.6_M3S2 =]
