Hi, this is my first post =]

So currently I'm using an old at&t phone, and I was looking into getting the iphone 3G. The thing is was that I wanted to jailbreak it and I do not want the data plan. I was wondering if it were possible for me to use the sim I have in my current phone in the iphone? I'm really confused right now because I've heard stuff like you can't cancel your data plan, or you have to return your iphone if you do. So what exactly is the deal and how can I do what I want to do if possible?

Thanks for your held :D
Alex

Oh and my phone right now is on a family plan. I have unlimited shared minutes, individually unlimited texting, and a small amount of data for mms.

I think TS is right, I've read a lot of posts on this forum about AT&T adding the data plan on when they realise you're using an iPhone.

So there's no way around this with the new ones? The old ones should be fine though. Would this work: my mum has an old one, I take it and jail break it put in my sim ect., and she buys herself a new iphone with the data plan?

I read in this forum that a member who was on AT&T called to cancel the data plan, stating that he sold the iPhone to another friend.

Thereafter, unlocked the iPhone and in went a T-Mobile sim.
