I just had to make a thread that even for me a hardcore user seem to be doing fine on a mac mini 2009 model.
I bought the $599 model and upgraded my RAM to 4GB and 320GB of 7200rpm hdd as well.
I was going to originally use this combo 24" LED ACD + Mac Mini 2.0GHz as my temporary machine until I can choose either a 17" unibody mbp or a 2.26GHz Mac Pro desktop!
So far its been a champ. I can do everything I wanted and I have to thank the fw800 for the most part.
I guess when I extract a d/led 16GB bluray movie I just transfer that file over via fw800 to my 1TB hdd which I use the 1TB hdd to extract the file and store.
I also have my 24" LED ACD plugged into the mac mini all the time and whenever I want to watch a bluray movie/dvd/hdtv shows I just use the 2nd mini dvi port to plug in my 40" Sony Bravia XBR6 and load up the plex player!
It plays all my 1080p mkv movies just fine in dual monitor mode and I can surf the web and still d/l things just fine! I'm amazed by how fast these new mac minis are especially the sizes they come in!
I also wanted a 17" mbp but I'm reading about all these freezing issues, artifact issues, line issues, overheating issues, clicking issues, screen flickering issues, and god only knows if Apple actually underclocked the 9600m gt cards in order to fix the artifact/line issues.
Also the 15" mbp has the occasional hardware freeze that only hard boot will fix.
Not to mention the Mac Pro desktops have the freezing, bluetooth, oscillating humming noise, mouse and keyboard (even wired) issues that are keeping me away!
Only issues I've heard were about the mac mini's bluetooth that wouldnt sync right but it was because some mac minis have the bluetooth card that wasnt plugged in all the way and you can do a quick fix. But I have had no issues with the mac mini and its just amazingly fast for a mere $600!!
Anyone else stoked!?!
