What if the new Tablet is a combination of iPod Touch and AppleTV?... and it can either dock with a connection to your TV for watching HD content, or better yet, it can connect wirelessly to your TV (perhaps through an updated AppleTV box)?

It would eanble you to use the tablet as the ultimate couch potato remote with multi-touch control over your TV/movie viewing all while surfing the web and doing email/chat on the tablet at the same time?

Far fetched? Killer-app?

but the iPod was your whole music library in your pocket. The table is unlikely to fit in the average pocket. and the drive would have to be substantial to hold much video. If it could shoot and edit video too... then maybe.

And yet, there are more than enough folks that don't mind a 16GB Touch, let alone a 32GB iPhone. If the touted device has an SD card slot . . . that addresses part of the storage issue quite nicely, right? How many full length DVDs fit on an 8GB SD card, whether ripped and converted or via the iTunes store?

DVD? Think H.264. If Apple brings the "iPad" to market, then it will have the resolution to display HD video. Of course, rendering H.264 requires enormous computing power.

32 GB? Not if Apple wants to make the most of device. My bet is that the iPad will rely on internal SSD storage much like the iPhone. To handle video, it will need much more than 32 GB. 256 GB is not out of the question.

What else can you do with a 5" x 8" extremely high resolution display? How about electronic books, magazines, newletters, newspapers? Who would be surprised to see Apple enter into a partnership with Gannett to distribute an electronic version of USA Today? the New York Times Company to distribute an electronic version of the New York Times. There are already electronic versions of traditional magazines like Scientific American and Playboy. There are also electronic-only magazines like Winding Road and Playback Magazine.

Can Apple sell more iPads in single day than Amazon.com sold Kindles since it came to market? To put is bluntly, it is possible for the iPad to be the salvation of the written word? If there is an iPad?

Unlike the conventional hard disc based iPods, I don't think targeted consumers are going to balk at the device because you can't have every video you have in your collection on the device.

I see the device as being more in the iPod family than the Mac side; a self contained device with an OS custom tailored for its unique features and upgradeable via App Store software as in the case of the iPhone. That makes the most sense since it will basically be a closed hardware environment.
