I really, really, REALLY want a 15-17" iPad. I could even use a 21".

This is purely for a photographic folio but I could also think of a lot more productive uses of it.

PLEASE Apple.

That's probably the thinking behind the Surface Studio (and the 15" Surface Book).

I really wish they'd sell the monitor independently.

Surface Studio looks good. Although personally I need something you can pass around between people, like a book, so normal iPad form would be perfect.

I meant to include the 15" Surface Book in that post as well.

Thanks - i didn't know it turned into a tablet! I must have been living under a rock. It looks good. Never in my life thought I'd say it but it seems Microsoft is making better stuff than Apple these days.

Would be nice but until then I'm slaying it with 16" wacom mobile studio pro.

The big 16" iPad better have allot more ram, better pencil, and ICC profiles for color critical workflows . That would be a real work machine ! A monitor mode would be rad too so you can run osx in native form without buggy software hacks like astropad.

One thing to think about with a big tablet that might get some knockaround usage is what happens if the screen breaks. The new iPad 12.9 screen costs something like $650 to have repaired.

Thanks, that looks sweet. I'd like to try one for drawing and retouching but as a folio I don't think it looks right. I think it really needs to be minimal like the iPad. No buttons and anything distracting, super minimal design that won't be distracting, purely for viewing only.

I agree, ICC profiles would be great and so would a display that shows 100% of Adobe 98.

Ah that makes sense. I though a folio was for making art not just displaying it.

Plenty of devices that can already do that.

There are but the problem is the display needs to be amazing. The iPad Pro display is really decent, I just wish it was bigger!

14" 2964 x 2224

Around the size of two Pro 10.5 side by side. Additional benefit, that makes for a display area that's very close to letter-size bond paper.

I could definitely see it working in a desktop environment. I considered getting a 12.9 for the desk to compliment by 10.5, but I found the 10.5 to be the best of both worlds as I don't want more than 2 devices for my computing needs (iPhone X and iPad Pro). Going that large though, they would need to revamp the UI to take advantage. I am hoping they are doing this already.

I can't imagine using the 12.9 when the 13" MBP and 12" rMB are available.

But I did buy the 10.5. It really is a nice improvement over the 9.7 screen.

Some people prefer iOS over macOS.

Because of physics anything bigger than 15” with such a thin frame would bend much more easily. The biggest I would like it to be is: 13.3-15” (that’s only if the iPad Pro had reduced bezels.) My 12.9 is a perfect size, Instead of a bigger screen though, I’d rather have a 12.9” that has a footprint that is 25%-30% smaller.

Kallum.

i know. I'm gonna sound totally off my rocker here, but I've gotten so used to the size of the 12.9 iPad that it just seems totally normal. Now the regular 9.7 or even 10.5 iPads feel like the mini and when I see the mini it just looks like a big iPhone to me. I miss the feeling I had when I first got the 12.9 of "whoaaa this thing is huge". I could imagine going even bigger as long as it was bezel less and light.

I'm gonna say it...15

It would really need a better iOS for it to be usable as a desktop replacement. My desktop has to many things connected to it. If I can't connect my external drives I have no use for it that way. I like the 12.9, I can still take it with my as a laptop replacement, and I say this with seriousness. I have used many laptops over the years, and I always return them or stop using them from Mac laptops to Windows ones. I am never satisfied with them like I am using the 12.9 iPad as a laptop replacement.

Could I see Apple making a larger iPad, yes. I think there is a market for it, especially for drawing or cad where you don't need to hold it as much.

I have kept both my 9.7 iPad Pro and have a 12.9 iPad. The 9.7 is used for certain things, while the larger one is used for photography and video creation (I don't need desktop grade software for video). The 9.7 is great for the games I play and I use both for Homekit, so regardless of if I take one with me, I can still control my lights, cameras, and outlets.

I do prefer the larger iPad for a lot of things, especially note taking.

You want a 15 inch? With a keyboard and a trackpad? I just know the right product for you? :D

No but seriously, that'd be pretty cool.

I use them both, and I program both of them, but my opinion is not based on which OS is “better” it’s based on the hardware in the 12 - 13” arena of devices.

Sure, it comes down to personal preference. I just prefer iOS, even in that size of device. Nothing about being better, it's all subjective.

Larger than 12.9"? Yikes. It'd be like carrying around a small TV. I actually found the 12.9 to feel a tad too cumbersome in the store when I checked one out a while back. Probably something you have to get used to but it's just not for me. 9.7 is perfect and I suppose the new 10.5 will be my max size.
Knoooott really. The smallest TV i have saw is like 6.7 inch. Even the iPad Mini is bigger than most portable TVs out there or small TV inside the car most likely bigger than 12.9" would be like carrying a small Cinema if its near to your face. I actually use iPad Pro 10.5 to my bed very close like 4 inch away to watch ASMR on bedtimes from my eyes it already felt like giant cinema. Cant imagine bigger than 12.9" though

Not so long ago 15.4" was the standard size for notebooks and 17" were the bigger ones (even Apple made one). 12.9" is about the size of a sheet of paper. If you need the iPad for work 12.9 is the only real usable option....

Microsoft make the 15” surface book so such a tablet isn’t unprecedented by any means... particularly with much reduced bezels I don’t think it would be an overly cumbersome product. Would definitely have to be more than 5.9mm thin though =P

I've got a SurfaceBook 2 15" in addition to the 12.9" 2018 iPad Pro.

The SurfaceBook is a wonderful product. With the tablet portion removed, it's big but not unwieldy. It's remarkably light as a tablet.

Of course, when you detach it you lose the GPU and a good portion of your battery life (the GPU and extra batteries are in the keyboard portion of the machine), but it's still very usable.

There was the Dell XPS 18 from a few years ago. I think Apple could go with this idea, make it a lot more sleek and portable, and sell a lot. but I can't even imagine the price... $3,000 + ??

Here's the old details from Dell https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/del...all-in-one-desktop-with-touch/spd/xps-18-1810

The larger tablet idea would be a shift in usage that doesn't fit current categories. Its mobile and portable. But only in the desktop/ countertop/ lap sense. Its not going to be something that is handheld. An 18" tablet could be more portable than the 17" MacBook Pro and those seemed to have a market when they were a thing.

I think its possible, hope it happens.

Bigger than 12.9”? Um...Not for an ipad in any traditional sense. A 15” or larger ipad would be a very specialized niche device. It wouldn’t be practical for anyone but artists really. Even for media consumption it would be impractical to hold a device that large close to your face. Kinda pointless. If Apple was gonna make a touch device that large, might as well make an iMac with a touch screen.
