I've been waiting for so long, and this morning the impulse just hit me.

I converted to a MacBook Pro with work around 5 months ago, and have since put AppleTV in 3 rooms, converted all my media library (2TB), and have been trying to justify the spend on a new iMac to replace my current PC home computer.

Over recent weeks I've been agonizing over the rumors of a new iMac for Xmas, and as I always like to buy the top of the range, thought it would be foolish to buy anything until the new models are announced.

Monitoring the Apple Store daily, I've noticed the recent lack of availability of iMacs in the refurbished section of the store, and having a few friends who convinced me of the extra value of a refurb, saw this as a likelihood that Apple were phasing them out.

Now as I understand it, I have 14 day's to arrange for the iMac to be returned for a full refund (minus re-stocking fee) if the product should not be satisfactory for any reasons (i.e. new model announced and I want that one), so upon logging on early this morning, and seeing a single solitary 3.06 sat there in the store, I couldn't hold myself back any longer :)

Going to get the memory upgrade away from Apple as recommended by so many here, and will pop into the Regent Store shop for a Time Capsule in a week or so when I get round to it.

Just wanted to share this post really in case anyone else is considering the same thing (and wants to check there are other mad people out here), secondly as a permanent 'lurker' here, wanted to say how valuable I find the information here so wanted to say a collective 'thanks' to the community, and finally, hoping someone can confirm my understanding of the 'returns' policy for the UK (i.e. send back via courier, or return in person to a store?).

Many thanks, and best wishes.

Dale

Dale,

Congrats! I fully understand the desire for the latest! I think you'll enjoy the machine but doubt very much Apple will drop the line.

I'm hoping for a pre-xmas release of the new models so I can replace the 24" I just returned.

Good luck!

Awesome! Now that you pulled the trigger, all us of can look for updates on Tuesday.

Eh, who cares! iMac no matter which generation ROCKS! It might be coming NOV 10 (8 days) but oh well. Who cares. If you like it, awesome! I personally would convert EVERYTHING myself, thuogh I am going to wait till after college :)

Hey, I recommend the backup system time capsule

I would echo Dale's thanks to this community. I purchased a refurbed 24" 2.4 GHZ iMac about two weeks ago, and the advice and assistance readily granted on this forum is very helpful to a switcher like myself.
