So I got my BlackBook on Sunday. Standard configured Black model.
Two things happened (each one happened twice).
First, for some reason, after I shut down the machine and closed the lid, I noticed that the sleep light was on, but the machine was off. I had to hold down the power button both times to actually turn it off (even though it was off, I guess its hard to explain). After starting the MB up again, it gave me an error, it wasn't the shutdown improperly one, something different.
Second is with charging. I let the laptop battery drain down to empty, until it went to sleep. I plugged it in to the power adapter, and woke it up. After about ten minutes I noticed that the battery indicator in the menu showed 0%, but that it was charging. I thought this was odd, so I unplugged the MB to see what happens, and it went right to sleep. I plugged it back in and woke it up, now the battery life showed 14% and its charging now.
Is this a common issue or something? Just wondering if I should go back to the Apple Store with it or if its going to be a waste of time (if there is no current fix for this)..
Anyone else having these problems?

Just to rule this out, when you turned it off, was it plugged into the mains? It may have been a charging light?

Nope, both times, it wasn't plugged it, it was running off the battery which had a good charge.

BTW, I've been keeping an eye on the battery using coconutbattery. I don't know how accurate it is, but my battery capacity is decreasing daily. It says that the original battery capacity was 5200mAh, currrently its 4855mAh. Yesterday I saw it at 4948mAh. Is this a bad thing? I mean, it doesn't look like a good thing, I am just wondering if I have a bad battery.

I don't know if this is the same "problem" but it sounds like something that is happening to my wife. She shuts down her MacBook then closes it (before the shutdown is complete). Closing it puts it into sleep mode, but since it's in the middle of shutting down it's no surprise it confuses the hell out of the laptop.

I've been a long time PC user and when I shut down my laptop, I always wait until it's finished before closing it (unless I have it configured not to go to sleep when closed). Otherwise, you're asking for problems.

I learned with my PowerBook that you need to wait for the laptop to turn off before closing the lid. Twice now, the MacBook has proven this as wrong.

I think I might take a trip to the Apple Store, since I just bought it on Sunday, I would think they can help me with it in some way.

macbook problem

I'm thinking one possibilty could be that your laptop was on, but the screen was set to lowest brightness level. this makes it appear to be off unless you look very very carefully, and you may seen an outline of open apps. Otherwise, the screen is as black as your blackbook. This probably wasnt the case, but im just throwing in suggestions
