Couple of questions about installed xp

Two questions -

1) Is there a way to set-up a third swap partition that both OSX and XP can access to share files? (Note this is after XP has been installed)

2) Can the boot selection screen be set to automatically come up at boot instead of holding down the 'option' key at boot?

Saw some info about the swap partition, but seems to imply you have to do it at XP install somehow.

I'm not sure if this will work cuz i've never tried it, but you can try to use Disk Utility in OS X and make another partition. However that partition MUST be FAT 32 in order to have both OS X and windows to read and write from it.

Hmm, I tried Disk Utility but it is telling me that I can't make a partition because "This disk contains the startup volume and cannot be partitioned" am I missing something?

No, you are not. you can only partition a disk that is not being actively used (by the OS). I think that Disk Utility does will delete the entire volume that you want to partition (may not be true with intel macs, but thats how it was on PPC). You could use something like "diskutil resizeVolume" (same thing that boot camp uses to non-destructively resize you OSX partition) but it looks tricky. I may be able to help you a bit on it, but backup everything beforehand. On my iBook I used a linux program called mac-fdisk but I don't know how intel macs are with linux programs.

EDIT: warning adding a extra will apparently leave the boot camp assistant useless.
