Hello,

I have a couple of questions regarding multitasking in iPadOS 15. I haven’t updated yet.

Firstly, the app shelf sounds like a useful feature which I’m sure I will make good use of, however I’m wondering whether the larger ‘show all windows’ (Exposé) is still available (like previous version of iPadOS)?

Secondly, I believe the Safari tab view carousel in iOS has been replaced with the grid view (like on the iPad), however when using slide over or 25/75 split screen on the iPad, are the tabs still shown in carousel view or has it also changed to grid view? I prefer the carousel view for the narrow slide over and 25% split screen.

Thanks.

1) Both yes and no. For the most part the shelf takes over, but if you specifically hit show all windows from the home screen you’ll get an Exposé like view still.

2) Always grid

Does the app shelf appear every single time you open an app with multiple open windows? That sounds like it would get frustrating. I understand if you touch the screen it hides but if you don‘t do anything does it auto hide after a few seconds?

My understanding was that you could open an app from the homescreen and it would simply open the last used window and that the shelf would only shown when either pressing on the multitasking menu (...) or when invoking the dock from within an app and pressing on the app icon.

I always have multiple Safari & notes windows open (but have a primary window I mostly use) and it would be frustrating to have the shelf appear every time I open Safari or Notes.

Thanks!

My normal use case doesn't really run into this, and I've mostly been using Stage Manager for the last while so I can only tell you what my quick testing just now concluded and only have that one data point. But yes, it seems to show every time and does not have a timer for auto-hide; It just stays until you interact with it
