A friend of mine just gave me his (I think 2002) Mac G4 to sell for him. Upon receiving it, the iMac appears that it could be unused and sealed in its original box.

It doesn't appear to have been ever opened, however, how can I be sure? I know it may seem a silly question but I just want to be sure as I want to be as accurate as possible selling this thing. The sellotape on the top and sides doesn't seem to have even been removed but I have my doubts as not being as familiar with Apple back then as I am now it would seem to me that sellotape like this seems a bit crude for Apple. And of course would like to know if it's better to see if it's all working, therefore, opening it or selling it as is and unopened.

Cheers.

I'm a great fan of G4 iMac, I have several with and without original boxes. From your photos this is most definitely a Mac which has been previously opened and resealed, albeit badly.
Use and enjoy it! These are great machines, and depending on the exact model are still very useable today (even internet use) with maxed-out RAM, an SSD installed and Sorbet Leopard 10.5.9 as the OS.

A couple of things come to mind...

1. How do you know what's actually in the box if you don't open it?
2. How do you know it that actually works?

You selling the thing as-is? Most people want to at least see actual pictures of the device and some proof of life before purchasing.

Maybe that's just me... of course I can't fathom someone buying a computer and letting it sit for 20 years either.
