Couple of Questions

I know that to buy an IPHONE, you have to sign a two year contract. What fees are required w/in this two year contract? Essentially, what will I be paying when I buy the phone- $599 for the phone, the first month's bill, activation fees, tax, etc.?

Secondly, if I decide that I don't like AT&T (I've heard terrible complaints), can I still cancel my contract? I know that you can cancel w/in 30 days, but I want to keep the IPHONE. Will I have to pay the cancellation fee ($175), but get to keep the phone?

I really just want to know what I'll have to pay when I buy the phone, and if I cancel my contract and want to keep the phone.

Expect to pay an activation fee and sales tax (I'm not sure about the first month's bill).

I believe, if you cancel within the test period (usually 30 days) you have to pay the full, unsubsidized cost of the phone.

why would you want to keep the iphone, though? Unless i'm mistaken, So far it's not unlocked, and even if you could, a lot of the features wouldn't be enabled like visual voicemail.

Maybe he's one of those people like me who don't want a phone, but do want a touch screen iPod with WiFi and a web browser.

I don't understand people wanting to get out of the contract. The phone features on the US iPhone will not work without AT&T. Unless someone cracks the lock. And then good luck getting support from Apple on your cracked iPhone on another network.

So at best, when you cancel the contract, you'll be left with a 4-8GB touchscreen video iPod for $500-$600.

For people who don't want AT&T, wouldn't it be better to wait until Apple makes a new video iPod with the new touch interface? Or wait until the exclusivity ends with AT&T. Or at the very least, see what Apple ends up doing in the rest of the world (maybe import an Asian or European iPhone later?)

While I would love a touch screen iPod that is essentially and iPhone without the phone, I wouldn't pay the iPhone prices. I just wish they would release it.

You will pay for equipment, activation, and taxes. You will be invoiced for your month in advance plus pro-rated charges from activation through the end of the billing cycle (varies region to region).
