sorry i tried searching, but im limited on time as im about to go to the apple store.

1. Has the new iphone 3G been locked?
2. Is it possible to buy without activating at store?
3. If not, can a friend who has ATT (whos buying one as well) go with me, activate two phones, and then cancel his phone and give to me? I use Tmo and currently have a Iphone unlocked.

Thanks for anyone who can help.

thanks, so he offered to just give me the phone under his name for a month. so would i simply just pay that bill for a month and he cancels and then i can officially switch it over to mine?

sort of, you're missing the part where HE would have to pay an early termination fee (i believe it's $175)

also, as of right now the only way to UNlock a 3g iphone is a physical modification of the sim card and the 3g will NOT work on many other networks due to the frequency it operates on.

Jeff obviously I would pay for it, however, why would there be a termination fee in the first month? I thought it went into effect after?

That being said, i think im gonna hold off. I dont think i will take advantage of the 3g seeing as i work from home primarily and rarely use internet outside of the house (just emailing). And theres something about the new iphone that im not feelin!

I prefer the feel physically to my old one.

Anyways, thanks for the info guys. Might still pick one up.
