At the risk of asking a "stupid" question...

....I'm wondering what the difference is between the xeon processors of the 5,1 MP (my 2012 has 2 x 2.4Ghz 6 core), & the i series of the MBP (my 2012 is a 2.7Ghz i7).

Curious as I've been gaming a little on my Mac Pro & some games Im looking at playing are "requiring" an i7 processor as part of the system requirements.

Thanks

Looking at the Geekbench 5 scores on Everymac, it looks like your MBP wins on single-core performance (736 v 494), but the Mac Pro is hugely better on multi-core, as you'd expect since you've got 12 cores (4620 v 2859). I'm not a massive computer gamer, but my understanding is that for gaming single-core performance is more important. But surely even more important is the GPU, which is likely better on your Mac Pro? The only way to find out is to test it for yourself.

Right now my Mac Pro only has 2 x 6 core 2.4Ghz CPUs so the single core score wouldn't be great...hopefully after I drop a pair of 3.46Ghz CPUs it would be better suited for some gaming...

The GPU on the Mac Pro is a 8Gb Sapphire 480 which should be more than enough...
